Netflix ordered the miniseries on September 28, 2018, with Neil LaBute serving as co-director, writer and showrunner for the seven-episode project.

The production reportedly cost around $14 million total, averaging about $2 million per episode.

Kate Bosworth, in addition to starring as KC, also acted as a producer on the miniseries.

Kate Bosworth, Natalie Martinez, and Alex Pettyfer were confirmed as stars alongside the initial series order announcement in September 2018, while other main cast members like Michelle Veintimilla, Kota Eberhardt, Sibylla Deen, Ronald Peet, and Anthony Lee Medina were only confirmed in August 2019, shortly before release.

Filming took place at Pinewood Indomina Studios and on location in San Pedro de Macorís and Las Terrenas, Samaná, in the Dominican Republic, running from October 15 to December 19, 2018.

The series received overwhelmingly negative reviews, scoring just 8% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7 out of 100 on Metacritic, indicating 'overwhelming dislike'.

Critics frequently compared the show unfavorably to Lost; Hollywood Reporter's Daniel Fienberg said it showed 'a fundamental misunderstanding of how Lost handled character development, mythology, flashback structure, theme and ensemble-building.'

RogerEbert.com critic Brian Tallerico compared the show's badness to Tommy Wiseau's cult film The Room, calling it 'the kind of project that leaves your jaw on the floor.'
