Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

Aswani Dutt revealed that the story was originally crafted by Raj & DK for superstar Chiranjeevi, but he turned down the project due to reservations about his character having two children.

Casting

Akshaye Khanna was initially hired as the lead in November 2017 and agreed to the finalized script, but he was replaced by Manoj Bajpayee in December 2017 due to budget constraints after Khanna demanded a huge fee.

Casting

The series marked Manoj Bajpayee's digital debut, and it also marked the digital debut of Neeraj Madhav as well as Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who joined in season 2 as the main antagonist Raji.

Origins

Raj and DK stated in an interview that the series is closely based on the tone of the film Shor in the City (2011), blending drama, edge, and bureaucratic humor drawn from real newspaper headlines.

Filming

A scene at Ballad Estate in South Mumbai was filmed in a single continuous take lasting 7 to 11 minutes, with the camera positioned inside the car for half of the action sequence.

Filming

Since the crew was denied permission to film in Balochistan, they built a huge set in Ladakh to resemble the region for season 1's Balochistan sequences.

Filming

A 13-minute hospital sequence was shot in a real, functioning hospital in Mumbai; the crew had only two nights to rehearse and shoot it because the expensive location was available for a limited time.

Filming

Season 2 filming was interrupted by the COVID-19 lockdown in India after wrapping its first schedule on 2 March 2020, and resumed in July 2020 under strict safety guidelines before wrapping in September 2020.

Reception

Season 1 became the most-watched Indian web show on Amazon Prime Video after its release in September 2019.

Reception

The trailer launch for season 2 was cancelled in January 2021 due to the controversy surrounding another Amazon Prime series, Tandav, which delayed the season's release from February to June 2021.

Reception

The Tamil Nadu government formally requested the Central government to ban or halt the release of season 2, arguing it hurt the sentiments of Eelam Tamils by portraying Tamilians as terrorists.

Reception

An RSS-affiliated magazine, Panchajanya, criticized season 1 for scenes depicting the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the makers of creating sympathy for terrorists.
