The series is a revival of the original 1992–1995 Ghostwriter show, reimagined as an original series for the launch of Apple TV+.

The show premiered on November 1, 2019, timed to coincide with the official launch of the Apple TV+ streaming service.

The series was written and directed by Luke Matheny and executive produced by J.J. Johnson, Andrew Orenstein, and Christin Simms.

Principal photography began in December 2018 and wrapped in Summer 2019, with filming taking place in Hamilton, Ontario.

The book-character cast features well-known actors in guest roles, including Neil Patrick Harris as the White Rabbit, Aasif Mandvi as Bagheera, Randall Park as the Cowardly Lion, Jay Baruchel as Ralph S. Mouse, and Jean Smart as Charlotte.

A companion series of bonus videos titled Ghostwriter: Beyond the Page premiered on April 1, 2021.

The first season received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 9.5/10 based on six reviews.

Season three introduces an entirely new cast of children and a new ghostwriter character, centering the mystery around returning an ancient scroll called the Eloquent Peasant to Egypt.
