Origins

The series is a true crime drama anthology created by Patrick Macmanus, based on the podcast of the same name, and premiered on Peacock on July 15, 2021.

Origins

NBCUniversal announced the adaptation in October 2018, with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch executive producing via Escape Artists, before confirming in September 2019 that it would stream on Peacock.

Filming

Stephen Frears was originally set to direct the first two episodes in January 2020, but he was replaced by Maggie Kiley in September 2020.

Casting

Jamie Dornan was originally cast as Dr. Christopher Duntsch in August 2019, but he was replaced by Joshua Jackson in October 2020.

Chris Sullivan was originally cast in the first season but was later replaced by Dominic Burgess.

Origins

For season 2, the show shifted focus to real-life Swiss surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, with Ashley Michel Hoban being promoted from producer to executive producer and showrunner.

Season 2 was directed by two different filmmakers splitting the episodes: Jennifer Morrison directed episodes 1–4 and Laura Belsey directed episodes 5–8.

Reception

The first season received a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 75, while the second season scored 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and 67 on Metacritic, both indicating generally favorable reviews.
