/
Origins

The series was originally ordered straight-to-series by WarnerMedia in October 2019 under the title Grease: Rydell High, intended for HBO Max.

Origins

After being retitled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies in May 2020, HBO Max's chief content officer Casey Bloys decided not to move forward with it, and the project moved to Paramount+ in October 2020, with Annabel Oakes becoming the official creator.

Filming

The series was initially set to film in California after receiving a state tax credit, but production ultimately began in Vancouver, British Columbia in January 2022.

Music

Songwriter Justin Tranter wrote around 30 new original songs for the series, some co-written with others, aiming to blend a contemporary sound with 1950s-style nostalgia and harmonies.

Music

Justin Tranter, who served as executive music producer, deliberately crafted the songs knowing they would serve as a snapshot of the era in which they were written, tying them closely to the story and characters.

Reception

The show holds a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 38 reviews and a Metacritic score of 59/100 based on 14 critics, indicating mixed reviews.

Reception

Despite premiering on April 6, 2023, the series was canceled and removed from Paramount+ just weeks after its June 1, 2023 season finale.
