Club 57

The show was greenlit after Iginio Straffi, who wanted to co-develop another series with Nickelodeon following Winx Club, watched an unaired pilot episode for Club 57 that had been filmed at Viacom's Miami studio back in 2016.

At Straffi's direction, the male lead JJ was rewritten from the original outline as a 1950s Italian immigrant, a change Nickelodeon's VP of programming said gave the script greater depth.

Iginio Straffi brought over many former Winx Club crew members to work on Club 57, including most of the writing staff and design team.

The series was originally greenlit for a full season of 75 episodes, an order later reduced to 60 episodes.

Evaluna Montaner was cast as the lead after her father received a message from a friend saying the show's lead role, then named 'Luca', seemed fit for his daughter; the character was renamed Eva after she got the part.

Riccardo Frascari sent Rainbow a video audition of himself singing a song in Spanish even though he could not speak the language fluently at the time; after being cast as JJ, he took an intensive Spanish class to become fluent.

Except for leads Evaluna Montaner and Sebastián Silva, most cast members were given a list of 1950s films to study and took courses on how people in the 1950s walked, talked, and ate, since their characters lived in that era; Montaner and Silva were left out of this training so their characters' surprised reactions to 1950s customs would feel natural.

Filming began on 24 September 2018 in Monopoli, in Italy's Apulia region, with all exterior shots filmed in the city of Martina Franca, before production moved to Viacom's Miami studio.

In total, more than 2,700 minutes of footage were shot across 118 days of filming for the first 60 episodes.

The series' original music was composed by Evaluna Montaner's father Ricardo Montaner, her brothers Mau and Ricky Montaner, and her fiancé Camilo Echeverry, continuing the Montaner family tradition of writing songs together.

An Italian-language version of the soundtrack was also recorded, with Montaner, Frascari, Fefi Oliveira and Isabella Castillo dubbing their own songs into Italian.

When replayed on Viacom's Telefe network, Club 57 became the highest-rated program in its timeslot from May to July 2019, reaching a total of 17.8 million viewers.

Club 57 was nominated as the best live-action/hybrid TV series of 2019 at RAI's Pulcinella Awards festival in Positano, Italy, and received multiple nominations at the 2019 Kids' Choice Awards Mexico.

At the 2019 Giffoni Film Festival, Rainbow held a 'Rainbow Day' event where then-unaired episodes of Winx Club and Club 57 were screened for festival jurors, and Riccardo Frascari performed as JJ and took part in a fan Q&A.

On 30 November 2019, a live stage musical based on the series, described by Billboard as a spin-off set after the first season, opened at the Teatro Gran Rex featuring most of the TV cast and all the show's original songs.
