Saving Grace

Series creator Nancy Miller grew up in Oklahoma City and drew heavily on her hometown for the show's setting and details.

Many characters' surnames are derived from Oklahoma town and city names, such as Hanadarko (from Anadarko), Ada, Dewey, Stillwater, and Perry.

The 1995 bombing of Oklahoma City's Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building is repeatedly referenced in the plot, with the protagonist's sister depicted as having died in the bombing.

The local Oklahoma City restaurant Johnnies Charcoal Broiler is frequently mentioned throughout the series as a nod to the city's real-life culture.

Although set in Oklahoma City, with shots of landmarks like the Oklahoma City National Memorial and the downtown skyline, much of the series was actually filmed in Vancouver and Los Angeles.

In October 2007, the cast, writers, and producers traveled to Oklahoma City for a special event where Mayor Mick Cornett presented creator Nancy Miller and star Holly Hunter with Keys to the City.

Despite achieving high ratings, the series was canceled by producer Fox Television Studios in August 2009 due to disappointing overseas and DVD sales.

Due to the cancellation, the split third season was adjusted, ending its summer run with ten episodes instead of the planned nine, and three new episodes were added to the final six to give the series proper closure.
