The New Woody Woodpecker Show was co-developed by animators Bob Jaques and Kelly Armstrong as an updated version of the original The Woody Woodpecker Show, produced by Universal Cartoon Studios.

The series aired on Fox's Fox Kids programming block from May 8, 1999, to July 27, 2002, with a total of 53 episodes comprising 155 segments, plus one episode-length Christmas special and one classic Chilly Willy cartoon.

Woody Woodpecker was voiced by Billy West, who also voiced multiple other characters in the show including Wally Walrus, Dr. Doug Nutts, the Judge, and Cupid.

Mark Hamill voiced three different characters in the series: the main antagonist Buzz Buzzard, his henchman Tweaky the Lackey, and the psychotic Creepy Badger.

Tim Curry guest-voiced the high society woodpecker thief Nicky Knickknacker in the episode 'Eenie, Meany, Out You Go'.

The character Dr. Doug Nutts, voiced by Billy West, is depicted as impersonating actor Don Knotts.

Woody's father is portrayed as Scottish-accented, similar in style to Scrooge McDuck, and voiced by Corey Burton.

The show was distributed internationally, airing on YTV in Canada, Cartoon Network in Australia and Latin America, and CBBC and later CITV in the UK, and later became available on streaming platforms including Netflix, Peacock, Hulu, Yahoo! View, Tubi, and YouTube.
