Le avventure di Super Mario Bros. 3 è una serie televisiva americana animata basata sul videogioco Super Mario Bros. 3. È andata in onda sulla NBC con Captain N: The Game Master in un blocco di programmazione intitolato Captain N & The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 dal 8 settembre 1990 al 1º dicembre 1990. A differenza del suo predecessore The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, la serie non ha segmenti live-action. La DIC Entertainment ha prodotto questa serie mentre Nintendo ha fornito i personaggi e i power-up.

A differenza della sua precedente serie (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!), Le Avventure di Super Mario Bros. 3 abbandona i segmenti dal vivo e adotta una continuità narrativa più sviluppata tra gli episodi.

Cast

Solo John Stocker (Toad) e Harvey Atkin (King Koopa/Bowser) hanno ripreso i loro ruoli della serie precedente, tutto il resto del cast vocale è stato rinnovato.

Genesi

La serie era stata messa in produzione prima che i nomi ufficiali dei Koopalings fossero definiti per il videogioco, il che spiega perché i figli di Bowser portano nomi diversi da quelli del gioco (ad esempio Cheatsy Koopa invece di Larry, o Kootie Pie Koopa invece di Wendy O.).

Curiosità

Secondo Shigeru Miyamoto, creatore della franchise Mario, i Koopalings non sono in realtà i figli di Bowser, il quale ha un solo figlio, Bowser Jr., introdotto molto più tardi nel gioco Super Mario Sunshine.

Riprese

L'animazione della serie è stata realizzata all'estero dallo studio sudcoreano Sei Young Animation, mentre la produzione era affidata a DIC Animation City in coproduzione con lo studio italiano Reteitalia S.p.A.

Riferimenti

Ogni episodio si apriva su una tavola dei titoli che utilizzava immagini della mappa del mondo tratte direttamente dal videogioco Super Mario Bros. 3, e spesso riprendeva i power-up e i nemici del gioco.

Musica

La versione originale trasmessa nel 1990 conteneva cover di brani sotto licenza in cinque episodi e due brani di Milli Vanilli in un altro episodio; a causa di restrizioni sui diritti (e dello scandalo del playback di Milli Vanilli del 1989), le edizioni DVD complete hanno sostituito queste musiche con il brano "Mega Move" tratto da Captain N: The Game Master.

Accoglienza

La serie era inizialmente trasmessa in un blocco di programmazione di un'ora con Captain N: The Game Master su NBC, dove due episodi di Mario Bros. incorniciavano un episodio completo di Captain N.
