豆知識と制作秘話

企画

Surf's Upのアイデアは、Happy Feetなどのペンギン映画が公開される4年半以上前の2002年にまで遡ります。ソニーではペンギンサーファー映画が開発されていて、ウェストサイド物語とロミオとジュリエットの中間的なものとして説明されていましたが、脚本家クリス・ジェンキンスはこのアイデアは弱いと考え、疑似ドキュメンタリーアングルで再提案される前にプロジェクトは消滅しました。

撮影

本物のドキュメンタリーの手持ちカメラの感覚を得るために、アニメーション制作チームは実際のカメラマンオペレーターの動きをモーションキャプチャし、仮想セットがカメラの動きに即座に反応する本物の撮影セットをシミュレートする技術を生み出しました。

キャスト

実在するサーファーのケリー・スレーターとロブ・マチャドは、映画の中で自分たちのペンギン版に声を貸し、さらに波をどのようにアニメーション化すべきかについてアニメーターにフィードバックを与えました。

キャスト

疑似ドキュメンタリーの雰囲気を強調するため、声優は録音中にセリフを即興で演じるよう招待されました。

音楽

映画に登場する『Wipe Out』の音楽版はパンクバンド『The Queers』が演奏していますが、公式サウンドトラックではおそらくマーケティング上の理由から『Big Nose』という仮名でクレジットされています。

音楽

Green Dayの『Welcome to Paradise』と『Holiday』の曲は映画の背景音楽として流れていますが、どちらも公式にリリースされたサウンドトラックには収録されていません。

豆知識

サーフ用品企業クイックシルバーは映画制作のクリエイティブコンサルタントとして機能し、描かれるサーフィンの世界に真正性を与えるのに役立ちました。

豆知識

映画のDVDとブルーレイには、『The ChubbChubbs!』と『The ChubbChubbs Save Xmas』という2本のアニメーション短編が含まれており、後者はそのリリースで初公開でした。
