Beverly Hills Cop II

Paramount Pictures had originally planned a television series based on the 1984 film "Beverly Hills Cop". Eddie Murphy declined the series but agreed to shoot a sequel.

The film's setting and shooting were initially planned for London and Paris, but the script was rewritten after Murphy expressed his unwillingness to film outside the United States.

Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer hired Tony Scott as director thanks to the success of his 1986 film "Top Gun".

Ronny Cox's character, Captain Bogomil, was originally supposed to have more screen time, but the actor was unable to dedicate himself to it due to his work filming "RoboCop".

Eddie Murphy's salary for the role was 8 million dollars out of a total film budget of 27 million dollars. Filming began on November 10, 1986 and ended on March 25, 1987, lasting 135 days.

According to editor Billy Weber, director Martin Brest refused to shoot the sequel, so the project went to Tony Scott, who was more of an action director than a comedy director — because of this, the first cut was considered too serious and lacking in humor, and the script had to be rewritten after the first screening to add more jokes.

According to the editor, during filming Eddie Murphy began showing signs of star tantrums — he often arrived late to set, although he got along well with director Tony Scott.

The song "Hold On" performed by Kat to Billie plays in the scene at the Playboy mansion, but on the official soundtrack album a different version of the song with different lyrics was released, performed by Corey Hart.

The film introduced the public to George Michael's controversial song "I Want Your Sex", which became a hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as Bob Seger's #1 hit "Shakedown", which was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

Despite "Shakedown"'s success on the music charts and its award nominations, the song "I Want Your Sex" from the same soundtrack won a Razzie Award for worst song of the year, although it achieved platinum sales status.

The film grossed around 300 million dollars at the box office worldwide and at the time of its release set a record for opening weekend box office receipts (33 million dollars for a four-day weekend), surpassing the achievement of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom".

Eddie Murphy himself later called the film "probably the most successful mediocre film in history", admitting that it was a "half-assed film" — essentially a retelling of the first part, but without its spontaneity and humor.
