Entertainment Weekly magazine gave the series a C grade, praising reflections on the family life of working parents, but criticizing the repetition of crude sexual jokes.

In 2002, TV Guide placed Bless This House in 48th place on the list of 50 worst TV programs of all time.

People magazine praised the performances of Andrew Dice Clay and Cathy Moriarty, but concluded that the series 'would work better on radio' than on television.

Variety observed that, despite the series attempting to imitate The Honeymooners, its closest relative in tone would be Married... with Children, and criticized Clay's performance as 'forced', while praising Cathy Moriarty as 'a treasure'.
