Riptide

Riptide was a midseason series that debuted as a two-hour TV movie in early 1984, before becoming a regular series on NBC.

The series' domestic distribution rights were sold to Columbia Pictures Television in September 1985, and its successor, Sony Pictures Television, still holds those rights today.

The penultimate episode of the series, 'If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em', features Cody and Nick as consultants for a fictional team on a detective series pilot that clearly parodies Moonlighting, a series that competed directly with Riptide on Tuesday nights.

The third season episode 'Home for Christmas', featuring James Whitmore, stands out for its strongly emotional tone in contrast to the rest of the series.

Unlike most television robots of the era, Murray's robot, called The Roboz, did not speak.

In Germany, the series was broadcast under the title 'Trio mit vier Fäusten' (Trio with Four Fists).

In the DVD editions released in Germany by Universum Films, a bonus episode of 21 Jump Street was included, and the second season box set contains the episode 'The Twisted Cross', not originally broadcast in the country, in English with German subtitles.

Canadian DVD releases from Visual Entertainment had their musical scores replaced and scenes edited due to copyright issues, unlike the German box sets, which maintained the original American soundtrack.
