May December Seven oN ★ 7
A movie with oppressive atmosphere that made me feel awkward and unsettled though out it all. But to me it felt like it missed something, I don’t know what, maybe purpose? Until I found out that it was based on the true life story of Mary Kay Letourneau and read about it. The movie doesn’t have an overt narrative that progresses like most movies do. Instead it relies on subtext. From that perspective it’s a very well made movie, and the acting is great. Loved Julianne Moore’s performance. 0
Mord im Orientexpress Seven oN ★ 8
Too much was changed in this adaptation turning it more into a drama than a mystery. Probably if I hadn’t known any of the books, I’d like the movie better (with the exception of the interrogations in the middle of the snow with Branagh only wearing his jacket 🙄). But why change names and relationships, why introduce a character name from a totally different book that had no reason being on that train (Pilar Estravados). Better then to change it up even more, including the title like they did with Hallowe’en Party / A Haunting in Venice. 0
Midnight in the Switchgrass - Auf der Spur des Killers Seven oN ★ 6
A movie that I will remember for a long time? No, but heck, I don’t remember the details of the best of movies. Was it a decent and entertaining enough watch? Definitely (though I do wonder where Lombardo got that stake). Lukas Haas is very creepy and convincing. 0
Smile - Siehst du es auch? Seven oN ★ 6
Could’ve easily been a 9/10 movie: a mix between horror, thriller and mystery, very oppressive and tense, great build up. But that end completely ruined it for me. From being original it ended up being just one more horror movie of its kind. A total waste of potential! 0
Unersetzlich - Irreplaceable You Seven oN ★ 6
It’s always difficult to rate a movie that’s about sickness and death, because the subject is impactful on its own. This movie adds a new touch (what do you do to ensure you leave your partner in the best of hands) and the acting is convincing. And yet… 0
Phantastische Tierwesen: Dumbledores Geheimnisse Seven oN ★ 8
Ah, and here we again have a great and magical adventure, that equals the first movie. If it weren’t for Johnny Depp being replaced by Mads Mikkelsen (a great actor imo but not in the magical world) I would again have given it 9/10. 0
Phantastische Tierwesen und wo sie zu finden sind Seven oN ★ 9
Rewatch and I loved it as much as the first time. The images and music really take you to a world of magic. The characters are interesting and (most of them) lovely. The storyline kept me engaged throughout. On to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald! 0
Family Man Seven oN ★ 8
Still in doubt if I want to give it 8 or 7 out of 10. I enjoyed the movie, I really like Nicholas Cage. But the movie seemed to want to convey the message that a life without partner (and children) could not be the happiest life you could live, which is certainly not true for a lot of people… May have to change my rating later on…. 0
The Creator Seven oN ★ 9
This movie has some good but also some very bad reviews which I just don’t understand. Void of emotion? Bad script? I experienced quite the opposite: a heartbreaking movie, with a gripping narrative, beautiful acting and a strong message about the callousness of human kind against everything we don’t fully understand, always feeling superior. It shows how easy it is to believe everything you’ve been told… until you experience otherwise that is. Beautiful movie which had me gripped from the start till the end! 0
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Teil Eins Seven oN ★ 9
High action movie with a gripping narrative, good pace, humor and chemistry between the characters. A long movie but it definitely didn’t feel like it! Love Benji and Luther! Edit: And the message after I posted my review! 💜💜💜😂 0
No One Will Save You Seven oN ★ 6
Great potential, both in theme/premise (how to love and forgive yourself) and execution. However, though conveying the theme/premise without the use of words sounds interesting, here it felt very unnatural and forced. Also, it left too much unexplained, which may have been on purpose, but too much of anything is never a good thing. The same goes for the middle part: about an hour of run-hide-run-hide repetitions. So enjoyable enough but it didn’t quite realise its potential. 0
