An atmospheric mix of horror, drama and romance. Loved the storyline showing both youths’ internal conflicts about (not) being a good person while trying to live their lives and just survive. Liked the overall movie but not the end. It was like all of a sudden I was watching a whole different movie… Too bad!

아마겟돈 타임
A lot (of real life issues) going on in this movie and as a result nothing really gets fleshed /worked out very well. Or at least, not as well as it could’ve been. It’s still a good movie with important topics though.
There’s this family, supposedly rich, at least in the eyes of the MC, but in reality not well off at all. A so called close family according to some reviewers (based off on them eating together) but in reality not really close at all. A so called ill behaved little brat, until we find out he’s being physically abused and may have a learning disability (which apparently makes him a let down to his parents). And there’s the MC’s friend dealing with racism and everything that comes with it.
Problems, which indeed do not occur only in this family or just incidentally (as some reviewers have pointed out). Unfortunately there are a lot of families facing all kinds of problems. There are a lot of people having to deal with racism too. So does that mean those aren’t suitable as themes for a movie? Is the message that this movie is trying to portray “Life is not fair”? Imho: no and no. As Hopkins says: “It is hard, but you have to keep fighting! You can’t give in/give up.” I believe thát is the message.

Very fun movie, interesting plot/theory, likable characters, decent special effects. Yes, of course suspension of disbelief is required, as is with most of these disaster/save the world movies but the over the top moments didn’t make me roll my eyes but rather they made me grin. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Very interesting and engrossing documentary with a good setup. Remarkable are some of the comments from people with apparently no empathy at all. Though maybe those are all from people who didn’t watch the entire documentary. It’s so easy to say “It would never happen to me”, until it does. Seen it so many times… The end broke my heart: 5 months in jail and back to living his old life…. 0

Gripping movie and well acted. It’s definitely a movie, and the story centers around Sara, with the side characters being exactly that: side characters. But they are side characters which support the MC’s story and there own traumas touch on Sara’s, helping them heal as well. Usually I’m complaining about a movie being too long, but not here. Maybe not a perfect movie, but very well done indeed.

Thought I’d would be another Perfect Housewives but it had a nice twist and posted some interesting questions so definitely enjoyed it. Just the end didn’t make much sense as Alice had already been there, apparently without Jack knowing, so that could/should’ve led her to the exit already…

Watched the movie after reading books 1-3 and was surprised how much was changed. This doesn’t have to be a problem (like Ready Player One) but in this case it felt like it was missing something. My buddy watchers think it missed context and background information. Though I’m not sure, that might be it. Enjoyed it nevertheless, but can’t give it more than 6/10 stars.

I DNF this movie and I don’t do that often. Sometimes a movie doesn’t manage to keep my attention, but while doing something else while watching, I do watch it till the end. Not this movie, I gave up after half an hour, especially after reading reviews saying that it gets even more boring further along the movie. Very artistic perhaps, but I watch movies because of their stories and I found that aspect extremely lacking in this movie.

Truly amazing movie! Loved the story, truly something else, out of the ordinary. Loved the 60 vibes, the costumes, music, scenery. Performances were great. Loved the cinematography, the visual effects. The horror elements were great, the feelings of horror and panick were really palpable. It’s been a long time since a movie could grip my attention from beginning till end, but this one certainly did. 0

I think I would’ve enjoyed this movie (even) more hadn’t I read the books. Now, it feels rushed and I’m missing a LOT of background information which makes me less invested in the characters in comparison to the the characters in the books. It has beautiful scenes and the story is epic, it just didn’t evoke the same feelings as the book did. Enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless.

Wow! All those bad ratings while Joe gives an outstanding performance, providing a tension which is almost unbearable. Also, the movie touches upon a lot of important aspects: the shortage of and immense pressure faced by emergency resources and law enforcement, the powerlessness and inability of mental health care and social work to help families in a way that is truly helpful, abuse of power by police, how on the one hand instincts and quick judgements are crucial to assistance and survival but on the other hand can feed preconceived notions leading one astray.
I would’ve liked to hear more about Joe’s background, why he’s facing court, why he mentions his dad, etc. Other than that, a gripping movie. Yes, it had me sigh at yet another remake, thinking it could never be nearly as good as the original one, but it surprised me, in a positive way.
With thanks to ferguson-6 @IMDb, whose review helped me put my thoughts into words.

A great movie? Nope! A very bad movie? Nope! There are definitely worse movies out there. And of course I didn’t have very high expectations. And also, as another reviewer stated, movies and the viewing experience is always in the eye of the beholder. I enjoyed watching it while having dinner.
